Attaching the Model

The model needs to be snugly attached to the "floor" so none of the liquid plaster will be able to seep under it.

Roll out thin coils of moist clay.

Wet the bottom edge of the clay model where it meets the vinyl with water, using a finger.

Press the coil(s) of clay along this seam, to seal any gaps between the clay and the vinyl. Smooth with a moistened finger tip.

Finish cleaning up the seam by using the corner of a ruler (or any square edge that is stiff enough) to scrape off excess clay.

Wipe a damp paper towel or sponge along the joint for the final smoothing.

Make sure that all clay debris is removed from the model and the "floor." If there are bumps or crumbs of clay remaining, they will show up in the mold as dents and hollows.
