How to Make a Clay Sweet Potato Ocarina

The "Voicing Wedges"

To help strengthen the sound and improve the appearance, clay wedges are added to the sides of the voicing. (Figure 1) Roll out an elongated ball of clay. (Figure 2) Press on one side of the clay to taper it into a wedge.

Slice off the fatter edge on the opposite side.(Figure 3) Cut the resulting piece in two. (Figure 4)

Attach wedges to the sides of the voicing with slip. The slip that squeezes out into the voicing will need to be removed.

Clean the excess slip out of the voicing with a knife (tool #4).
